Pure state entanglement vanishing when mixing pure states in a certain way - where does the entanglement go?

It is possible to mix pure, maximally entangled states in such a way, that the resulting mixed state is separable. However, entanglement is a physical property of systems, so I have a hard time understanding where the "individual entanglement" has gone in the mixing process.

Thanks!
