There was a documentary called "We are the Aliens", about a scientific theory regarding alien life. The theory was basically that living organisms travelled in clouds around the galaxy, infecting Earth-like planets as they go.
In 2001 a mysterious red rain fell for 2 months in Asia, and the cells were interestingly foreign. Scientists believe it is possible that we are foreign life-forms that infected this planet and took it over countless years ago.
Even if we came here as tiny cells and evolved into humans, that could mean that the same tiny cells could land on other life-bearing planets, and evolve in the same way. This would explain how alien lifeforms might have similar, humanoid structures. Because they evolved from the same cells that we did.
That's sort of a messy explanation of the theory but that's my personal take on how aliens could potentially be very similar to humans. One common criticism towards those that embrace the existence of aliens is the low possibility that aliens would look like how they are perceived, with faces and arms and legs. However this is a sensible explanation, at least to me.
