We all know about the WOW! signal discovered by the Big Ear telescope. Recently I started digging and finding more information and came across something odd.
According to the official Big Ear website, the sound of the WOW! signal was never recorded. The website states itself that "there was no audio recording equipment attached to the output of that radio telescope." Why? Why wasn't there audio recording equipment? To me that makes absolutely no sense. I believe the sound must've been recorded but has been hidden from the public.
A sound has been used widely across the internet and even on television. A documentary by the BBC featuring Brian Cox plays this audio in the background. You can watch the clip of this program here.
However, this sound is not genuine. At least I hope not because the sound in this transmission is definitely not aliens. The full sound that is supposedly the signal can be heard here. There are many other videos on the internet of this sound.
If you speed up the sound you can hear a human sounding voice speaking English language. It sounds like police radio chatter. If you do not believe me, try it yourself. I downloaded Audacity and simply sped up the file using that application. The voice appears to say something like "It's 7pm at double 10-61". This definitely sounds like police code communications. Here is a video of someone speeding up the file, although you can do it yourself and will find the same result.
So my question is what is this audio and where is it from? Who actually was the first person to say this was the audio of the WOW! signal? I am very curious and I can't believe that the BBC would use this audio when just by speeding it up you can tell it isn't genuine. And if it is genuine it looks like we're contacting other humans lost in time and space, not aliens. Where is this audio from? How come nobody has found the source of this audio? Most importantly, why have I rarely seen anyone discuss this?
I'm not entirely sure but I think that the WOW! signal was recorded but was hidden. We all know of Area 51 and other secretive government projects with extraterrestrial conspiricies behind them. So maybe the sound was hidden and then this sound was intended to be used as a cover-up.
