Bitcoin mining is actively making climate change worse by consuming vast amounts of energy. We need the opposite of that: a cryptocurrency that uses human greed to entice people to clean up the climate. Ideally, such a currency would replace the computational work that provides Bitcoin with its value with a different proof of value: removing carbon from the atmosphere. If there were such a coin, and markets started speculating in it as they have with Bitcoin, it would create a concrete incentive for people to invest in carbon capture. Plus, that's actually a real value to the world (as opposed to Bitcoin mining).
