What simulators are used when testing how a ship or system would behave in space.

As the title implies I am looking for free tool to use for testing out a robotic design. This robot would inspect a craft for damages for this I need to know how my design will behave in a space. I would need to understand how my thrusters would work if I apply X thrust what would happen etc. Please share any knowledge and experience used when designing these robots; I am very new to understanding how systems would behave in space, thank you
