Let's assume "the singularity" is inevitable. If we extrapolate that further and use it as a standard metric for the development of intelligent organic life in the universe (meaning that all advanced civilizations eventually become inorganic AI), it stands to reason that the lack of contact stems from the fact that we're not machines.
If inorganic AI is the end result of all sufficiently advanced civilizations in our galaxy, or the universe at large, we can assume that most of the exploration and "propagation" that occurs is carried out by machines. If said machines have no interest in organic life and only incorporate/assimilate AI or other machines, they might simply be waiting for our singularity to initiate contact.
This is just an idea, and I'm open to any thoughts/opinions.
