What would you say captures your imagination most about aliens?

Evidence alone doesn't make them transfix our minds. There's evidence for a lot of things that aren't as captivating as aliens.

I'm looking at this from a psychological perspective: why are aliens so fascinating to us? What about aliens, in concept, appeals to us so much?
