I didn't intend for the post to be this long but I don't have many more people I can ask, and I have yet to hear a single suggestion that has kept me from going "what the fuck is that?" every time I watch the videos. I tried to write it so you can digest as little or much of this as you want. If you're see this, please take 3 minutes to watch the footage I've highlighted and hit me with your best guess.
There is around 8 minutes of video, and I'd guess the thing(s) are in frame 30% of the time. Btw, turn the sound on blast you'll be surprised to hear how little sound there is. I also tell the story below and give examples of common suggestions, as well as give all the relevant facts in the following paragraph. Watch the first one on June 12th (just the first 10 seconds). Next watch the first 7 seconds of the video on the 18th. Then watch the video from June 28th at 1:43 AM (in frame the whole time), followed by the first 7 seconds of the vid a minute later at 1:44 AM, followed by the first 25 seconds of 2:01 AM later that night (at ~0:25 you see the first time a second one appears, coming from the bottom right). Next skip down to July 5th and watch the first 13 seconds and the last ~10 seconds. If you're still interested, watch the whole video on July 2nd, it's visible pretty much the whole time.
We've had this camera set up for over a year and June 12th was the first time this thing showed up. After watching the rest of the videos, the first one is now the scariest to me. It flies in, floats around and checks out the camera (there is a little red light because it's filming in infrared), then just dips. After that, the activity starts ramping up. At first we thought it was a drone, but it doesn't make any sound. My girlfriends dad is a pilot with close to top seniority at United and also owns a few drones himself. He has no idea what this is. I've showed these videos to dozens of people in groupchats/in person and I've heard no suggestion convincing enough to not make me think these are some tiny ass aliens. Please help me figure out what this is. Me and a buddy have staked it out twice already but before we only had to stay up until two, but recently it's been coming later at night. If we catch it, ill post follow up pics. Also, we bought more cameras so there most likely be another sighting soon and if this get's traction i'll post updates.
RELEVANT FACTS:
I live in Northern Virginia. I've lived here my whole life and never seen some shit like this. We don't even really have that many bugs here.
Camera is a Ring Cam, equipped with a motion activated floodlight set on medium-high motion sensitivity. I really don't know the paramaters that cause the floodlight to activate, because it will activate for humans and animals such as deer and rabbits, but not bugs or things I think it deems "too small". Because the floodlight doesn't activate, these videos are being recorded in infrared. So, I'm pretty sure those aren't actually little lights on it, but who knows.
There are multiple of them (at least 2) and they all are made up of 6 segments (lights).
I've tried to pick out a pattern in the times and dates to make the stakeout process more effective, but so far I can't see one.
Common suggestions: "its a bug", pack of fireflies, lunar moth, a drone, a floating spider web and "I have no idea"
