Rayna Rison and Derek Brown


A tale of hauntings, killings and scary mysteries, the Twisted Two's takes two unique stories intertwined with bloodshed, murder, mystery and the supernatural.

For this week, the story focuses on the murder and disappearance of Rayna Rison and the copycat Jack the Ripper, Derek Brown. These are your Twisted Two's.


Rayna Rison


The small community of La Porte County lies 70 miles south of Chicago. It’s a typical Midwestern town with beautiful tree-lined streets, mom and pop shops, bars and cafe’s. It’s the last kind of town you would expect a gruesome murder could happen but in 1993, that’s exactly what happened.

Born to Karen and Ben Rison, Rayna Rison was like any other 16-year old, high school sophomore. She was a good student, played three instruments in the school band and worked three jobs including one at a local animal hospital. Her dream was to become a veterinarian.

Derek Brown - Jack The Ripper Copycat


Derek Brown became Jack the Ripper’s copycat when he brutally murdered two women like his predecessor. Brown lived in Preston, Lancashire. In 1989, he was convicted of rape and has had several prior convictions. Brown, according to friends and acquaintances, was a heavy drinker and many of those who knew him said he sought notoriety. In several instances, he expressed how he wanted to be “famous.” One friend even said that Brown threatened him at one point.

To showcase his commitment in becoming a famous murderer, prior to carrying out the attacks, Brown went to his local library and borrowed a book about killers. From there, he began assembling his own “murder kit” which included a steam cleaner, waterproof sheeting and bow saw.
