Maybe the decision of an ET Civilization to make contact with Us is similar to us trying to teach apes to speak, or dolphins to fish, or dogs to... anything really. Imagine David Attenborough telling a Grey Parrot they're recording and studying them and the Parrot going like "Damn, these are Gods and have magic and stuff" and telling the Parrot they can help them achieve higher intelligence but would require millennia of Evolution.
Would you accept evolution if it meant to be animals to their standards? Or more importantly, are Humans capable of performing at their level?
This pluri-planetary socio-political shit is fascinating. I hope ETI (or UTI or whatever it is) is real. Humanity needs to be humbled down imo. We kinda bullying the planet.
