As you read this, a nigh-incomprehensibly fast artificial intelligence is at work undetectably monitoring and studying any and all communications originating from this planet. All emails, instant messages, digital audio and video messages and uploads of all kinds, all live feeds -- all private and public digital communications -- are being instantly traced to their digital and geographic sources. An understanding of who we are as a species and who you are as an individual is growing more detailed by the moment. What would take hours and hundreds if not thousands of our best computers to accomplish is being done instantaneously. Every yet buried dinosaur bone has already been mapped by their peering, all-penetrating scans.
Deep beneath the surface of the planet they've established bases, in some places beneath the seas. Their ships are in the sky, invisible to sight and radar among the clouds. From many regions throughout the galaxy they've gathered here, multiple species with varying intentions. Some walk the streets in broad daylight, undetected because they look similar enough to us.
We are in a room surrounded, primitives armed with sticks and stones and trying desperately to hold on the little bit that we think is still in our control. Just inches away on the other side, millions upon millions of people much more technologically advanced than we. And we pray they are not evil.
The end is not approaching, but rather a new era is about to begin. We sick and frightened primitives are about to meet peoples greater in many ways than us. And we pray they are not evil.
They are already in the room, walking on the ceiling, concealed from sight. And we pray they are not evil.
