Asking questions is a very powerful tool, especially asking "why" and "how". Margherita Cesca Nelder-Haynes is an architect, living and working in Cambridge, a city where there is an extremely active ecosystem of technological start-ups, so much so as to make it a European Silicon Valley. Her design concepts always develop in synergy with different disciplines, because good architecture is a complex interaction between art and science, including technology, biochemistry, engineering, statistics and much more. Asking the right questions, not only to colleagues but also to clients and stakeholders, allows us to create innovative solutions, particularly when focusing on environmental sustainability, as Margherita does. Today in architecture a sustainable project requires a holistic approach and deep creativity, focused on the constructive dialogue between different experts; collaborating to bring the best of each profession together into a cohesive single answer. Margherita is an Italo-British RIBA Chartered Architect, she is Director of Architecture at Lanpro. She graduated at IUAV and she has a strong passion for pioneering technologies and innovations mostly related to sustainability and Carbon Zero strategies. She collaborates with the University of Cambridge on avant-garde environmental and green initiatives. She has designed and delivered the award winning “P2P Power to Plants” prototype at Cambridge Botanic Garden in cooperation with Biochemistry Department of Cambridge University. She has designed and delivered the first "BREEAM Excellent" School in Cambridgeshire in 2010. She is socially involved and currently is a Trustee at Ely Museum and the Co-Chair of EastCambsCAN.
She is intrigued by digital/BIM/Revit specifically linked to construction and she is currently learning more about Digital Tech, Coding, Blockchain and AI.
She’s the curator and founder of ITALIANspaceWISE + Quaderno. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
