Solar and space weather news, October 29, 2021.
Region 2887 produced an X1/2n (R3-Strong) flare on Oct. 28. A fast, asymmetric Halo CME was first observed in LASCO C2 imagery at 15:48 UTC. Analysis, and subsequent model output, suggests CME impact at Earth early to mid 30 Oct. G3 (Strong) geomagnetic storm conditions are expected on the 30th, with G1-G2 (Minor-Moderate) storm conditions on 31 Oct.
Sunspot AR2887 may not be finished yet. It has already produced two M-class flares and an X-flare on Oct. 28. The active region is directly facing Earth, so any additional eruptions should be geoeffective.
Radiation Storm: A minor (S1) radiation storm now in progress as energetic particle levels continue to rise in the wake of the solar flare.
M-class Flare from Region AR2891
Earth orbiting satellites detected an M1.5-class solar flare from sunspot AR2891.
The moderate eruption occurred earlier today (02:42 UTC, Oct. 29.)
