G.Gankhuu Having crossed the Iron curtain during the height of the Cold war. Gankhuu is one of the first Mongolians to travel to more than a hundred counties combined. He reminisces on his trip to Britain where he managed to earn a considerable sum only to lose of it gambling. However, Gankhuu proclaims anyone can travel the world equipped with only a backpack, some knowledge of the language, and a pinch of bravery. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community During the Soviet era he went to Czech to study as a Costume designer, a profession which he hadn't even heard about. Just going abroad was a good enough reason to choose a profession he would never work a single day. From that day his journey of “Backpacking” began.
For the last 30 years Gankhuu Gendendaram has been to 118 countries and counting. From the summit of Mount Massif, the tallest mountain in Antarctica to the Inle lake in Myanmar, he thinks that traveling was the most influential thing in his life.
