How will machine learning/artificial intelligence affect space exploration?

I realize this is an incredibly broad question that is highly speculative but it's importance bears discussion in light of uncertainty.

What technologies are in development now or in the near future? When major advancements do you predict and in what time frame? What implications do these have to colonizing other planets?
