After re-watching Infinity War I had an idea. What if the existence of alien life is never proven first hand but instead some kind of hard shift in reality caused by something big happening somewhere in this universe?

I had this idea and thought I would share.

Basically, what if alien life as we know it is never discovered, at least not for a long time. Say one day something with our reality as we know it changes out of the blue and is widespread but we have no explanation for it. Something like our constellations suddenly change drastically or something we wouldn’t even be able to comprehend but still recognize things as being off or different but you aren’t sure what exactly changed.
