I’ve heard this a lot, and especially lately, and i had an interesting talk with a friend and i’m hoping to start a nice discussion here.
Let’s say that humans are at the point where we could travel across the universe. what is one of the first things we’d do? go to a planet with life. and of course, before we land, we would want to observe the life, at least briefly, to make sure it’s safe to land.
as most of us here in this subreddit believe, life on other planets in our universe is more than likely, but i think it’s safe to say it’s not going to be on every planet or even in most solar systems, so if we found life at all, why would we not study and observe this new alien life?
now let’s say this alien life is advanced enough to where they have a society and technology, like us humans. what would we do? would we make contact with them? would we observe them for a while and decide if they’re even ready for contact? would we continuously check up on them until we felt they could handle contact?
I can tell you what we wouldn’t do, and thats just ignore them. Why would we not be interested in an alien life form that has the potential to advance like we did?
Now, where i was obviously going with this, if advanced alien life exists (i know most of us here believe) and they knew we (a civilization capable of flying to our moon and launching satellites out of our solar system) were here, and they also have the capability to fly across the universe like it’s a commute to work, why would they not want to observe us, at least a couple of times here and there?
Let me know what you guys think i’d love to get a healthy discussion going(:
