New naming system for celestial bodies?

I was reading somewhere that classifications of celestial objects are a little muddy due to the fact that we named things before defining them ("asteroid" means star-like, "planet" applies to spherical objects that have cleared their orbital neighborhood even though there are theoretically objects the size of Mars in the Oort Cloud that have not, etc.)

Has anybody considered a new kind of celestial classification system that adheres to our current knowledge of space, and is it possible that we could ever see it implemented?
