Theory: The aliens depicted in the media are years of our evolutionary process, shaping homosapiens into a new, evolved species. Time travel does indeed exist, and these evolved species have traveled back (through black holes perhaps) in time to the present, to alter the future they live in. The future is dependent upon the present, and the present dependent upon the future. At one point in the near future we will align with these species to make the Earth a more inhabitable place for all of us. Aliens have visited us in the past to shape our reality and they will visit again.
