Can humanity ever really be “ready”? We aren’t even ready for the internet, automobiles, planes, basically every technological advance we aren’t really ready for.
If we woke up one day and all artificially made things were gone, we’d be right back to where we were 100,000 years ago after everyone dies who has leftover knowledge. All of our progress is cumulative, we are the same humanity as we were 100,000 years ago, just living off the incremental advances our ancestors made and a small percentage of people adding to it currently.
So I think, if we’re not ready now, we won’t be ready for hundreds of thousands of years or until we radically change our species through genetic and/or cybernetic enhancement. We’re anatomically no different than humans from many thousands of years ago.
That’s assuming the whole reason why ET won’t contact us, if in fact they are visiting Earth, is due to us not being ready.
