I've never fully performed live action role playing with dice, but I've made the best of more than one costume. I've listened to the various alien related communities here for a while, and I've come to sympathize with those people who are willing to fantasize, but admit when they're doing it. I don't even know how to LARP properly, but I get that it's fun for the people who do it.
The distinction they often make when telling us that this isn't really the same thing is this: They know it's a fantasy, and do it for fun. They do it all in person, not digitally.
What we often call a LARP (Live Action Role Play) has no decent live action element. When people are pretending to know about aliens, but they're just another throwawaylien account, it's just digital. These things pop up all over the place.
Digital Action Role Play.
DARP even sounds as diminutive as it deserves to be.
Let's give our cute, geeky LARPer friends a break, shall we?
