Solar update August 1, 2021: A coronal dimming was observed in the vicinity of Region 2849, SDO/AIA 193 x-ray data recorded a long-duration B2.4 event.

STEREO-A COR2 coronagraph imagery observed a CME beginning at about 31/1753 UTC. SOHO LASCO C2 C3 coronagraphs were also captured
the coronal mass ejection. Analysis of any Earth-directed component will be accomplished over the next few hours.

Mercury at Superior Solar Conjunction
Right now, Mercury is at the farside of its orbit and today it will pass behind the sun. Astronomers call this "superior solar comjunction. At closest approach on Aug. 1st,

Mercury will be just 1.7 degrees from the sun. Mercury is also visible in SOHO LASCO C2. Human eyes cannot see these events, but coronagraphs can. Join SOHO for a ringside seat.
