The Nommo are primordial ancestral spirits in Dogon religion and cosmogony, though some researchers are convinced that they may in fact be aliens. In one story of the Dogon of West Africa an ark descended to the ground bringing advanced amphibious beings, known as the Nommo. These beings gave the Dogon advanced information about an invisible companion to the star Sirius, which was extremely heavy and made of a special metal not found on Earth. It would one day be known by astronomers as Sirius B.
