The way we tend to chat about daily doings of extraterrestrials reminds me of common implicit assumptions that folks in old photographs were super serious/never smiled, ya know?
Do they get competitive with one another? Does one ever express something spontaneous that others don’t know how to react to, and would that play on expectations elicit some equivalent of a smile? Do they play a poker equivalent? Are they willing to get their asses whooped casually in a friendly match of strength or wits? Are they ready to lose to me in Smash Ultimate? (🤪)
For real though, it could be like judging our entire race based specifically on the actions of French engineers doing work in a remote part of Norway. So oddly specific.
