You can see vids on YouTube about the history of mesmerism or hypnosis as it's now called. In the early days the claim was that when in trance the subjects would sometimes have telepathic ability and be able to see medical problems in others and what was needed for cures. Other phenomena with memory effects occurred -but it's still common today to make a person lose memory or get false memories while in trance. In the videos they comment on why things like telepathy failed to catch on in hypnosis research. Ridicule from the accepted scientific community being one reason.
All this though sounds a lot like the talents aliens demonstrate. Especially telepathic communication. If these beings come from a time a million years ahead of us then it's likely they have developed psi talents by studying hypnosis or similar stuff. Apparently there's a lot of potential in the mind that we don't use. Too bad that it might take centuries for better minds to pursue it.
