I'm not a physicist of any sort and forgive me if this question or something similar has already been posted. (I searched but couldn't find anything.) My question: Is it possible that some of the currently unsolved physics questions might be resolved or eliminated by altering one or more of the fundamental assumptions that go into researching said problems without breaking something else? e.g. assume that E does not equal mc2 and see what happens? I hope this question makes some kind of sense.
