So I have heard a theory that we were once a much more advanced race. Due to some apocalyptic event like a volcano eruption - our population was reduced massively from something around today’s number to about 6,000 people (the estimate of survivors if the world’s largest volcano erupted). If our population where really to go through an event like this we would be pushed so far back - the main goal would be survival, people would not learn science or how to read or write. But the survivors who remembered the world before would try to explain rules on survival and diseases and all that we know today. I think that is where the roots of religion and magic that we have today come from. Obviously these complex concepts like bacteria would be dumbed down over time to demons and bad spirits. All we would have is a bunch of rules with no explication because the explanations would be lost with all the books and obviously thing like internet. Basically religion would be very useful and also clouded by over interpretation. That’s why it got us very far in history until we developed enough of our own understanding again to render it (along with magic) obsolete. - maybe the survivors of the old race only did so by getting off earth. Maybe they were very technologically advanced and were able to save their access to their version of the internet. Maybe those survivors are aliens??? What are y’all’s thoughts???
