Possible reason why we don’t see alien life

What are the actual odds that we would happen to see signs of life when the light we observe left it’s point of origin far in the past relative to how far away it is.

You have to think that the existence of life is only a tiny blip relative to the history of a planet, think of it like layers in a sedimentary core…now imagine each different planet has its own core and life only exists on a few of those layers.

If you stacked all the cores up next to each other, how many would line up where life exists at the same time. Now account for the distance between them and the time it would take for light/radio signals to travel.

Given that I think it’s much more reasonable to think that odds are if we encounter alien life it’s going to be because we came to them or they came to us.
