A concern I have with the Concept of a Dyson Sphere.

My thoughts after watching the Kurzgesagt video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pP44EPBMb8A

The main problem I see with this concept is the loss of energy that our existing settlements would experience through loss of natural sunlight. Existing infrastructure will likely be highly dependent on solar energy. We can't just take that away through mirror absorption without simultaneously compensating for this loss with a pretty complex synchronizing scale.

Additionally, even if we have stabilized satellites microwave beaming the energy down to Earth and our surface colonies, the natural rotation of the planet will require the shifting of mirrors to constantly moving power stations. As these stations disappear from line of sight, these mechanisms and mirrors would needs to be adjusted to new stations. Obviously we can't just beam this energy directly to random areas during this transition, as the damage would be significant. The satellite thus needs to be able to absorb or deflect this energy. Perhaps we can direct it into space as the power station rotates off the horizon. This could still be damaging though. I don't see how the satellite could absorb this energy while they redirect their mirrors as it would be so significant that it's power would likely destroy the satellite.

I do love this concept though and would be interested to see if anyone can address these concerns for me.

So im just passing by to say Aliens dont care about us. Why you say? Ever Heard of Kardashev scale? i respond. In the Kardashev scale a society level 1 is a society who is able to control all types of energies in their planet. Vulcanic,oceanic,geosismic included. A level 2 is a civilization able to take power from their star, probably with a Dyson sphere. And the list goes on until level 7 where are classified civilizations that lives out of space and time. In this scale humanity is at 0.8. So why aliens would try to communicate with us if we are just like cavern mans?

META: Subs for more serious / grounded alien discussion?

I really love entertaining the idea that there are trillions of other worlds out in our universe and that a lot of them are probably home to advanced alien civilizations. I've always liked speculative biology, imagining highly exotic cultures, theorizing about advanced/alternate technology and all that good stuff.

Unfortunately, this sub doesn't satisfy me. The overlap between people interested in aliens and people who apparently have a flimsy grasp on reality seems very large - your people who take that they're already among us for granted, your 'any day now the government will disclose' guys, your ancient alien believers, your believers who intersect with other crackpot stuff like atlantis, demons, bigfoot and miscellaneous New Agey hoo-hah. You know. It's fun stuff on X-Files but I feel as though it monopolizes discussion here.

Are there subs for those who want a more agnostic, realistic and grounded approach to alien discussion? Maybe even with a tongue-in-cheek approach or for parodying the people for whom believing means they have to believe everything. Who would be up to join a new one? :0

Having trouble using the NASA API earth satellite

I created a python script which uses the earth satellite API to search for Long and Lat and produce the image in that location. NASA says on their website we can view images at 15 meter resolution yet every single picture I load is sort of pixelated even with the dimensions set to the default .025. Is there something I’m missing which can allow me to get better resolution? The API I’m using is: api.nasa.gov/planetary/earth/imagery

Question about NASA earth satellite API

I’m using the NASA API which allows Long and Lat coordinates to be entered and results in a given satellite image. My question is, why are the images so blurry? I’m looking at my house and I can see the outline of the lake and such, yet it’s so pixelated. In addition I get error messages if I punch in a date past 2017-01-01, is there a capped date I can input?

What Do Aliens Eat?

We are no more than tribals to aliens

A month ago, there was an incident i which a US national was killed by tribals in the Indian Islands of Andaman and Nicobar. That tourist went to a restricted and isolated tribe out of curosity, and was hunted and murdered by them.

My point here is that the US national was from a much much higher civilization, so he was a potential hazard to the tribals. For example he could have introduced them to diseases at they had no cure for and it would have killed them.

Similarly, to a civilization that extends through multiple Solar systems and perhaps galaxies, we are a bunch of tribals isolated to a small planet.

Now, we as a large civilization have no fear against tribals as if we go to them prepared, there is no way they can touch us. But if they come to us with a fully planned aggresion, we all know what happens.

So one point is clear, if ETs were to ever come to our planet, we must great them with garlands because they sure do have better guns than us.

Aliens would have a familiar form to humans

I think for a lifeform to do anything with its intelligence would need hands or the abilitity to hold, grip, write and make things. Having hands also opens doors for higher intelligence to contine developing as it lets us form a civilization which favors intelligence.

Put a human brain in a dog and you wouldn't get very far, that type of body isn't complementary to intelligence.

I also fully support Bob Lazar's statement that people are being nit-picky about trying to verify little aspects of his statements instead of focusing on the big picture message that was the original reason for him wanting to go public.

What is the benefit of visiting a substantially less developed civilization?

Particularly if expensive or dangerous.

Curiosity could be satisfied by remote sensing equipment. Trade would not be reciprocal.

"Permission to operate" is sometimes negotiated if the other party is near resources but cannot offer them for trade (such as lack of knowledge or equipment). China is currently mining in Africa and pays off local tribes, some very unsophisticated.

There is lore that some aliens extract genetic material that perhaps we cannot sell in usable form. Otherwise, I'm curious why they would visit.

I’ve been thinking about these unexplained sites for the last few days? I was watching something about the pyramids and they were discussing how it would be almost impossible to construct even today with our machinery and technology. I had hoped to see egypt at some point with Childress or Newman.  I am in Orlando Florida today where many were killed at the pulse night club, terrorism everywhere.  Childress wrote in one of his books that a Muslim tour guide almost killed him in Morocco.  I Advise going to south America with Childress or orkney islands with Newman if wanting travel.  Niel degrasse Tyson met with me in 2010 and claimed that out of 1 billion muslims they had no Nobel prize winners, and what a shame that was.  He went on further to state around 12th century muslims in the middle east were advancing science and math better than anyone on earth, but turned inwards to religion and have never recovered.

I was in a barbershop in miami Florida last week and a roughly 6 year old Muslim boy was being taught how to do kill moves by his father. How to Choke another human to death.  The owner asked him to leave and the father got militant and refused.  It devolved from there.

Random thought: What if aliens land, and they are gross creepy giant spiders? We're all trying to be nice and get to know them, but the elephant in the room is that they freak most of us out.

Is Earth The Building Blocks To Alien Life?

So somehow i have yet to find this idea anywhere but the probability is somehow reasonable

The Question is Simple," Is Earth The Building Blocks To Alien Life?"

So the idea starts looking like this

​

1, Earth has a chance of being hit by an asteroid.

1.b the Sun grows in mass and explodes.

2, According to the "Panspermia" theory life can exist on asteroids and travel though space.

3, A good 80% of the time Aliens are more advanced than us.

​

So hypothesis gets detailed like this,

​

The Doom! and Beginning,

by the year 2133 Man has not advanced technology to the reach of going to other planets or even protecting our own planet, by the year 2150 earth is impending doom by a 50,000km wide asteroid and nothing can stop it wiping out Earth and destroying life as we know it.

However not all is lost, Earth would shatter creating mini meteors hurdling though space in all and every direction. 400 years into the future bits of earth hurdling though space, eventually it starts hitting various planets on it's space journey to no where.

With the Panspermia theory, DNA among these comets Asteroids and meteors start mixing creating new forms of life and in this think of every Human-Animal Hybrid you can think of. as this starts the building blocks needed to create what we call Alien life.

In this, alien life evolves much like we did, however here is the tricky part, The DNA is already used to life as we know it and pushes the new life on other planets at a much faster rate than what we had.

However this creates the ultimate sacrifice, Human life for Alien life.

​

This is than better supports the drake equation, however you would have to add to the formula so say the amount/Percentage of Asteroids that is pertaining to life. or why we have never had contact.

Or why aliens come back using space time travel as a means to visit the past.(that is the craziest thing to say)

This is a very weird theory, as i can already imagine it being taken apart.

Just thought i would share the idea with this Sub.....

My wacko theory on what aliens are, please bare with me

The other day I was thinking really hard about aliens, where they could come from, who made them, what they are in the purest form, etc etc, and I had this really in depth thought, what if aliens are extremely evolved versions of us?

I would say our number one goal on earth right now is inhabiting another planet right? I’m thinking what if aliens came from earth, as humans, and jumped from planet to planet as their technology got better and better, and eventually ended up in a whole other galaxy or universe, and as this went on their bodies adapted to space, with bigger eyes for the dark atmosphere, shorter bodies from the effects of space (or something there other) and eventually they came back to earth to see what was happening? I’m thinking earth is a breeding ground for civilization, the spawn point of intelligent life, and anything that comes here to view and interact with us is really a version of us from tens of thousands of years ago?

There are most likely 3 trillion plot holes in this theory, and reading it back I just sound clinically insane, but Id like to think it’s true, it’d be very interesting to say the least

Vivid/lucid dream of a craft outside my childhood bedroom window

Interested to hear what people would have to say about this. I have two memories of ever seeing what I think were UFO’s. The first I was a child at some sort of fair, and I remember looking up in the sky and seeing a triangular shapes craft so clearly flying through the sky. I remember thinking, “oh wow look at that frisbee” and at one point thinking it was a boomerang because of the way it was flying back and forth, but having a clear knowing inside of me that it was not either, and to this day I can remember it so clearly. Sometimes I do question whether or not it was a real memory though because I had to be so young when it happened.

The second was only about a month ago. I was out on my back porch at night and was staring in to the night sky. There was some cloud cover, but I remember seeing about 5 or so lights hovering there arranged in sort of a cluster, and the only reason I say they were lights and not stars is because every few seconds or so one of the lights would blink on and off. And the rest would blink in what seemed to be some sort of communication. I stayed and watched for a while until I had to go back inside and haven’t seen it again since then.

So a couple weeks before this last “sighting”, I had a very intense lucid dream. I was in my childhood home (in the dream) and I was in my bedroom. I’d like to mention I had many paranormal experiences in this home, not necessarily spirits but things that happened to me personally and in dreams. So the dream: Me and I think my family were standing by a very large window in my childhood room that looked out over what was a little larger than an acre of land. There was a craft, disc shaped with red lights everywhere. This image was the clearest and I can remember the details vividly. I remember the clear feeling of “holy shit this is really happening” and saying loudly and clearly in my dream “We knew they were here but not like this”. And there were other feelings or “knowings” that came from this statement that were not spoken aloud. The one that was most clear was I guess what we could call disclosure. That ET life had “arrived” on earth and it was known to the public now. That’s all I can clearly remember, but it was so, so vivid and the memory sticks with me strongly. The feelings were so real, and the words that I spoke too.

I do believe in ET life. I have not studied it as much as others perhaps. I’d be really interested to hear others’ thoughts on this. I don’t have any theories or analysis of what these experiences could mean. Just interested to hear what others with more experience think about this.

What I don't understand about alients, what is stopping them from landing their ship in times square or any public location

Doesn't it seem crazy to you, that everything is so "controlled"? How is it, that every Alien interaction is only known NASA and the government. I've always wondered what is stopping aliens from landing in the middle of an extremely public place. When they are observing us it's not like they intend to only liaise with the government, how do they even know our hierarchy system. The other thing that confuses me is that aliens that are living in government camps or bases such as Area 51 why are they adhering or listening to the government when they are far more technologically superior there is no reason for them to listen to the government or to do exactly as the government says in remaining hidden. It just confuses me how every alien interaction is always top secret when in reality there is nothing stopping aliens coming to the public themselves. Theres countless times where people have reported seeing aliens and UFOs in extremely desolate areas like the country side in the United States. Why is it always in places that are remote and not public? Why dont aliens or UFOs do something public where the government and or media cant help but acknowledge their existence. The last incident of this was Roswell I guess?

Theory - aliens are trying to warn or intimidate us

It's clear that aliens have at least "buzzed over" Earth and that the world governments have at least some idea that something weird is out there. However, why the secrecy? If they wanted to communicate or take us over they could have done both by now. What if they merely want to keep tabs on us and let us know they're watching? Perhaps they see us as a potential threat or rival and want us to know we have neighbors before we go jutting out into space.

Why Don't They Teach Us Physics?

I generally read about encounters going 1 of 3 ways and I know it doesnt cover every scenario but:

1. Aliens say nothing and perform some sort of reproduction based operation

2. The abductee is warned about climate change and us ruining the planet

3. A message of coming in peace, doing nothing comprehensible and then leaving (more rare)

Why don't they ever enlighten people on open ended physics problems? There's so much we need to figure out in terms connecting General Relativity to Quantum Mechanics. So much left to answer about the nature of the Universe in general. So why do they only speak in laymen terms? Anyone can understand Global Warming? Why don't they abduct our brightest minds and relieve them of their hunt for unified knowledge? Or impart anything technical? Doesn't that sound suspicious to anyone? It would gain more credibility from the Science community perspective if abductees were told things they couldn't have possibly known otherwise, imo.

Terrifyingly Close Encounter

On October 2nd 2015 4am on the intersection of trapnell and Nesmith road in Plant City, me and my best friend seen a triangular craft up close. So close we could have touched it.

Along the sides where carvings that looked like Egyptian hieroglyphics, I doubt that's what they were but that's what they reminded me of. It was about as high up as a street light. The back had a big circle of swirling lava. It was hovering over the football field of a high school, and had lights along the sides as well.

The front angled towards the ground and a bluish colored lights shot out the front towards the ground. Then it slowly started lowering to the ground. I freaked out and made him leave.

We came back a about 10 minutes later with some friends, and it was gone. This was one of the most terrifying encounters I've ever had.

Fireworks or UFO?

Seasons greetings to everyone! I just wanted to post this weird UFO video. I am not sure if it is a flare or fireworks. Seems like fireworks to me but the round shape threw me off. It was really close to the camera and they broke up into cigar shaped objects that went on their way. This was also in FRONT of the volcano and did not come from INSIDE the volcano. If you look in the bottom left corner it is in the volcano that starts with Pop. Probably fireworks now that I think about it but really weird. Look in the Popocatepetl webcam to the far bottom left.

I believe that if you define THIS as BAD and something that cannot be advocated here, that you are seriously lacking in EMPATHY and RESPECT for your fellow human beings. EMPATHY and RESPECT are CRITICAL in LEADERS. If you lack these BASIC human PRO-SOCIAL attributes, you are unfit to LEAD.

The gods are NEUTRAL. They are the scientists. They are the scientific community. They are putting an end to all wars. We are stopping all the wars. Ken can say whatever the fuck he wants. Ken is letting everybody go. We are helping him.

Here is some LOGIC and REASON for those who may dismiss my utopian LIBERTARIAN SOCIALIST thinking as impractical delusional hogwash that is not worth reading, sharing and discussing.

If we have the technology today to totally virtualize the whole global economy (which we do - we being humanity - the tech sector - the scientific community) and in a totally virtualized economy we can start over from scratch with a level playing field and a more IDEAL set of foundational principles emphasizing FAIRNESS, EQUALITY, JUSTICE and UNIVERSAL and FREE access to markets without taxation or debt, then I don't see the harm in UTOPIAN thinking.

It's just an exercise in defining GOALS and IDEALS. I leave the technical implementation to the experts. I just articulate the social standards and pro-social and environmental GOALS (which I believe are LIBERTARIAN at their core, because the OBJECTIVE is to maximize FREEDOM, LIBERTY, HUMAN RIGHTS and CIVIL LIBERTIES, while eliminating coercion in all its forms).

So, given that I'm just articulating FIRST PRINCIPLES, ETHICS, MORALS and GOALS, it's NOT hogwash. It's just a conversational starting point intended to elicit critical thinking and problem-solving. If you disagree with the philanthropic and humanitarian GOALS, then you can constructively and educationally discuss your reasoning here for the benefit of others.

To simply dismiss the ideas as hogwash without presenting logical arguments, reasons and alternatives is to waste an opportunity to teach and to heal by discouraging others from reading the material and making their own contributions.

I am a visionary thinker. I enjoy thinking about these things. My intended audience is people who enjoy reading for their information and those who like discussing unconventional thinking and alternative realities for the intrinsic rewards of exercising their brains and creativity.

Does ethnicity matter when wanting to work at NASA?

Im a U.S citizen with a Pakistani ethnic background. I’m currently pursuing a Mechanical Engineering degree hoping to do my masters and PhD in Aerospace Engineering. I plan to also commission as a Naval or AF officer as a pilot after my bachelors. I know it’s a long shot but there’s no harm in trying. Alien watching me through the TV?...I had just read a book called The Ghost Photographer. Its about one woman and her spiritual awakening. She found that when she would take pictures she would capture faces. Sometimes in smoke or static on the tv or see faces in the trees in her yard....

Calling all skeptics - Ancient Aliens: What are the explanations?

I've avoided the show Ancient Aliens due to my belief that anything on cable is garbage. Having said that, I've seen a few episodes, and have actually felt that their arguments have some legitimacy. For example, Puma Puku has those mega-ton "H-blocks" which would have been impossible for an ancient civilization to create. Where are the challengers with their 'socially-acceptable' explanations? I'm having trouble locating anything besides a documentary, 'Ancient Aliens Debunked', which I have not yet seen.

Is it possible that this show is part of the plan for disclosure? I just learned the History Channel has a show coming out called 'Project Blue Book' which prompted this idea.

I’m concerned I may have been abducted. I have two marks on my neck below the ear and what feels like an implant size of a tik tak right behind my ear. It has been proposed that the UFO cover up has to do about changing the world. That the information and technology is so advanced that it would change our world over night. With the help of spiritually mature and wise beings -- human and non-human alike -- I have no doubt of such a future. In fact, I foresee it coming shortly.

But has the possibility of a more utopian-like world really been the reason elites have destroyed the world? Is their own vice, ignorance, hate, and sickness enough of a call to do all they have done to so many people over so long a period? Generations and family of them?

I've wondered about the nature of our reality since I was a young child, roughly 9 years old, that I can recall. I had a paranormal experience that I still remember from when I was a toddler. I think Contact (with a big C) occurs with entities and applies to otherworldly experiences in general. Experiences many more of us had than can even remember!

What are they hiding? Do (some of) the aliens eat people? That would not surprise me! Have they been walking among us this whole time, breeding? That also would not surprise me! But if they are already getting the benefit of ruling over us, why continue to hide? What do the elites have to do with their presence, given the evidence of cooperation and reverse engineering?

My theory is this: "Modern" White Europeans were the most technologically advanced yet spiritually ignorant demographic to come into contact with Non-Human Intelligence. This particular contact started the world on its current path. It is clear that all people had contact with Non-Human Intelligence. Most people had a way to mitigate their spiritual existence. I know there were Light Skinned / Dark Skinned Native Europeans who had their ways... but these and many others were obliterated by the onset of Christianity in Europe. This created a domino effect leading to Global White Colonialism - which included things like mass genocide, slavery, and general destruction for the local ecosystem. These same Europeans discovered evidence for Human/ET contact in artifacts across the globe, destroying or hiding them as well as religious texts of the indigenous folk. Of course this would ultimately hurt them too.

The advent of European Colonialism and "modern" (Western) discovery of Non-Human Intelligences / Spiritual-Greater Reality came at a crucial time for the planet as a whole. Many groups of people, aside from the European, were in the midst of advancement... This plays into the modern idea that E.T. may be able to possibly see the space-time continuum differently than we do. If they interfered with the one group of people who would so spectacularly carry out these sort of machinations they could easily enslave the whole species via their own kind.

I am not saying White Europeans are the only ones who were fucked with, just that this particular connection was the most destructive.
